Built on Impact: The Story Behind Sunshine STEM Academy
Every transformative educational journey begins with a clear commitment: placing student growth and genuine academic rigor above all else. Long before Sunshine STEM Academy became a dedicated home for advanced mathematics, robotics, and personalized learning, its foundation was forged in the classrooms and competition halls of North Fulton.
As an Assistant Principal in charge of curriculum, instruction, and student services at Fulton Sunshine Academy, I had the privilege of helping shape an environment where young learners thrived. Our students didn’t just study science and math—they mastered them. From top-tier standardized test performance to back-to-back Georgia Tech FIRST LEGO League (FLL) State Championships in 2014 and 2015, the culture was defined by disciplined inquiry and boundless enthusiasm. My own background in engineering and coaching—including leading high school robotics teams to earn Georgia’s first international Motivate Award at the FTC level—reinforced a simple truth: when you give children the right tools, clear mentorship, and high expectations, their potential is limitless.
When Fulton Sunshine Academy completed its tenure as a public charter school, the bond between our educators and families remained unbreakable. Recognizing the value of this specialized instructional model, our parent community immediately mobilized to support the transition into a private school environment, ensuring that our students’ learning momentum never stalled.
To preserve this vision for the long term, I made the deliberate decision to establish an independent micro-school and learning center model. Moving from traditional school administration to running an independent learning center required immense personal sacrifice and unwavering resolve. In the early years, keeping our doors open meant working around the clock—doing whatever it took behind the scenes to secure our facility, cover operational costs, and maintain a stable learning space for our families.
That dedication was fueled by a core philosophy: education is not about arbitrary financial metrics or building a massive corporate footprint. True educational leadership means staying local, staying accessible, and remaining deeply connected to the families we serve.
Today, Sunshine STEM Academy remains committed to that original, grounded purpose. We exist to provide a welcoming, high-rigor environment where students build problem-solving confidence, master complex STEM concepts, and discover their true intellectual capabilities. Every lesson taught, every robot programmed, and every math problem solved is a continuation of a decade-long promise—to do the right thing for our students, inspire new generations, and positively shape their trajectories for life.
