Sunshine STEM Academy forms non-competitive robotics teams of up to 6 students each. The program follows a specially crafted robotics programming curriculum developed by Sunshine STEM Academy. In this 10-month course, students program an autonomous robot using both LEGO physical and virtual robots to complete missions on a thematic playing surface and create innovative solutions to problems. Kids also learn pair programming and team-building skills while programming their robots.
Sunshine STEM Academy serves families in Buckhead, Alpharetta and Cumming, Georgia with high-quality STEM education and academic enrichment for gifted and high-achieving students. Our innovative, whole-child approach builds strong foundations in Math and Reading while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning. Students can explore Robotics classes and workshops, advanced Math courses, SAT prep and SAT camps, coding, and personalized academic coaching, plus engaging STEM Summer Camps that inspire curiosity and confidence in Technology and Engineering.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING
![]()
We believe students learn best in multiple settings through independent practice, guided instruction, small-group collaboration, and hands-on projects. Instruction is personalized and paced to each student’s current level, guided by ongoing assessment and frequent check-ins, so instructors can build on strengths, close gaps, and adjust challenge appropriately. This approach keeps students motivated and confident while developing strong habits of learning, persistence, and ownership of progress.
COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING

Our students advance by demonstrating key learning milestones on a clear path to mastering core competencies and essential knowledge. Instead of moving forward based only on time spent in class, students progress when they can consistently show understanding and apply skills in meaningful ways. We create multiple pathways for students to demonstrate mastery, including performance-based projects, targeted skill checks, and standardized assessments when appropriate. Ongoing feedback and regular check-ins help students strengthen gaps, extend challenges, and build confidence as they move from one competency to the next.
LEARNING ANYTIME, ANYWHERE

Learning takes place beyond the traditional school day, and even beyond the school year. Time and place are used flexibly so students can practice, explore, and create when they are most ready to learn. Families can choose options that fit busy schedules, and students can continue building skills at home through meaningful extension activities. Digital tools and online resources help students access lessons, feedback, and enrichment, while instructors use check-ins and progress monitoring to keep learning on track. Students also have equitable opportunities to use technology that supports collaboration, research, and problem-solving, so they can demonstrate growth in ways that match their strengths and learning goals.
STUDENTS OWN THEIR LEARNING

Our students learn how to get “smarter” by applying effort strategically and using proven learning habits. They set goals, choose strategies, and practice with purpose, then reflect on what worked and what needs to change. Through frequent formative assessments, students track their progress toward college- and career-ready standards, identify strengths, and pinpoint learning challenges so they can adjust their approach and keep moving forward with confidence.
